LDS Valentines Day Countdown - Free Printable

Is it just me, or does it sometimes feel like Valentine's Day gifts are given out of obligation? I know I'm guilty of snagging a last minute gift for my husband that had little thought or effort put into it. These gifts are usually unremarkable and easily forgotten - which is exactly what I want to avoid!

And while I would love to give him a new Apple Watch or some other extravagant  gift, unfortunately it's just not in the budget right now.

For Valentines day I needed a gift that was inexpensive but meaningful. Something that would speak to his heart and bring us closer together on a spiritual level.

So last year I created a Valentine's Day love letter countdown. I wrote 14 love letters for my husband and inside each letter I included either a scripture or a quote from one of the general authorities on love and marriage.

The countdown was easy to put together. I typed and cut out each quote, then glued it onto some leftover scrap-booking paper and wrote a love letter that was loosely based on that quote.

For example on Day 1 of the countdown, I used a quote from Elder David A Bednar who said,

"We should remember the saying, “I love you is only a beginning. We need to say it, we need to mean it, and most importantly we need consistently to show it. We need to both express and demonstrate love.”

I then wrote a sweet little letter that explained the countdown and how I hoped that each letter would be a small daily expression of the love that I have for him.

Then each morning I would hide the letter somewhere different - sometimes with a small gift. My husband anticipated finding a new letter every day and love having something special to look forward to. I can honestly say that this This Valentine's Day countdown was a huge success and ended up being one of the most meaningful gifts I have ever given him.  It was wonderful to have a daily reminder that our marriage and love is something Heavenly Father wants us to be happy and successful in, and it helped us focus our minds on what is most important in life.

If you would like to make your own countdown, as a gift, I'm giving a PDF version of all the quotes I used to everyone on my mailing list. Each quote is labeled 1 - 14 to make it easy for you to get your countdown organized.

I hope you'll find this gift as meaningful to your relationship as we did.

  1. What an excellent idea! I wish I was more crafty like this, haha. But it's nice to give gifts that mean something as opposed to just a last minute run to wal-mart to get some treats!
